Rug

We place a rug on the floor to give cushion to an area in which we stand a lot, or to protect the flooring from being marred from use. Rugs might also give a small bit of traction (if they don’t slide) and they can definitely add some additional appeal to the floor. They can be used as a place to wipe off shoe or removing shoes when entering a home. A rug gets walked and stood on as it is used up and at sometime will be replaced.

The rug in my Christian walk is the word of God. As I journey through life and meet struggles the word comes as a buffer and cushion for my spirit. It can build me up and strengthen my resolve. But to do that, the word must be a part of me and just how prey tell does it become a part of me? Reading it, studying it, memorizing it, and meditating on it. God speaks to us through his word.

Read it… add a daily devotion to your life. They are generally less than 30 minutes and are a great way to begin or end the day.

Study it… find a set of people to meet with at some regular interval to do a study. Read and discuss the word or some Christian book that was written to assist us in living out our walk.

Memorize it… find scriptures that tie into your life, ones that you can lean on for strength and joy as you journey through life. Memorization can be difficult, take a verse and read five times a day for a week and if you don’t memorize it word for word you will at least memorize the gist of the verse and that is the heart of the process.

Meditate on it… once the verses or gist of the verses are a part of you, think about how specific verses apply to areas of your life. How can a verse be used to keep us from sin or as a testimony to others? Or think about how a verse can enhance our praise and worship.

Unlike a physical rug our spiritual rug will not wear down and need replaced. However as more and more scripture is placed into our minds and become a part of us it becomes more plush in its ability to bring comfort to us and an appeal to others.

I will leave off with some verses of import to myself…

“I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. I praise you, O Lord; teach me your decrees.” Psalms‬ ‭119:11-12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you.” John‬ ‭14:16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.” Romans‬ ‭8:1-2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I challenge you to memorize and meditate on some scripture and see if it doesn’t change your perspective and life.

Be blessed.
