Worms crawl around in the ground eating and digesting dirt and microbes making the ground more fertile for plant life. Water and other extra moisture in the soil makes the worm move to the surface where they are easy prey for predators and they can also find themselves on hard surfaces that they cannot burrow into and thus they die and harden.
David likened himself to a worm…
“But I am a worm and not a man. I am scorned and despised by all!” Psalms 22:6 NLT
In Job 25 Bildad compares us to God’s glory and says we are mere worms…
“God is more glorious than the moon; he shines brighter than the stars. In comparison, people are maggots; we mortals are mere worms.” Job 25:5-6 NLT
In comparison to God and His glory and righteousness we are truly like a worm crawling around in the dirt, totally unclean and slimy. However as a worm does in the ground making it more fertile, if we live a life of obedience to God and His commands we can be salt and light to the world revealing Him and the gospel.
As a worm gets too close to the surface and falls prey to a bird or surfaces and finds itself in a place where it cooks. Our spiritual walk can fall prey to its predator if we allow ourselves to play with or get too close to sin. If we allow sin to fester in us we will inevitably end up spiritually cooked and live in eternal torment. We must be grounded in the word and in pursuit of depth with God so the predator has less ability to sway us.
Let us therefore dig into the word of God so we will have the faith to extinguish the attacks of Satan. May we boldly possess our world for Christ and be the salt and light we are called to be.
Be blessed.
