1 a : an act or instance of resisting
b : a means of resisting
How do we overcome temptation in our lives?
“So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7 NLT
2 : the power or capacity to resist: such as
a : the inherent ability of an organism to resist harmful influences (such as disease, toxic agents, or infection)
b : the capacity of a species or strain of microorganism to survive exposure to a toxic agent (such as a drug) formerly effective against it
We as living organisms were once under the control of sin in our lives. But once we were saved by grace our lives are dead to those sins and we do not need to live under their power.
“Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live.” Romans 8:12-13 NLT
3 : an opposing or retarding force
“Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God. And you know that Jesus came to take away our sins, and there is no sin in him. Anyone who continues to live in him will not sin. But anyone who keeps on sinning does not know him or understand who he is. … Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God.” 1 John 3:4-6, 9 NLT
Gracious and marvelous Heavenly Father, you are worthy of my thoughts and admiration. Grant me today blessings and pleasures that will assist me in fulfilling your plans and directions for my life. Forgive me of my failures in my pursuit of you and your purpose. Show me where I have need of showing forgiveness so that I might, in turn, realize your forgiveness. To you be all my praise and glory. In Jesus name, amen.
Be blessed!
