I have many good memories and some bad memories. I have challenged myself and others who I know and love to memorize the word. By memorizing the word of God we have ammunition in our battle with temptation and our confidence in Christ’s work of salvation in our lives is enhanced. Thus enabling us to push on to our goal of holiness.
Our pastor said the other day that when we come to salvation and God begins cleaning us out, we must put something back in. The following is speaking of spirits being in us, while I am not saying if we are living in sin we are possessed the thought behind this remains the same,
“When an evil spirit leaves a person, it goes into the desert, seeking rest but finding none. Then it says, ‘I will return to the person I came from.’ So it returns and finds its former home empty, swept, and in order. Then the spirit finds seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they all enter the person and live there. And so that person is worse off than before. That will be the experience of this evil generation.” Matthew 12:43-45 NLT
If we don’t fill the cleaned out area in our lives with things that are edifying to the Spirit of God we will fill it with things that edify and feed our sinful nature.
“Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.” Romans 8:5-6 NLT
So I am all about putting more and more scripture in my mind. Word for word knowledge is not what I am in pursuit of, but the truth of the scripture, that is my objective. Oh God, you are mighty and awesome and deserve our praise. In reverence I say your name and humbly ask for your blessings today. Help me to keep my heart and mind stayed on you. I exalt and magnify your holy name oh God. Blessed be your name for your goodness and favor to your people. These things I ask in Jesus name, amen!
