This word can mean many things from the wild outdoors, the weather, to our tendencies. We have heard that Mother Nature takes care of everything outdoors and controls the weather. The comment that things happen as they do is a statement about the nature of things. Every living, breathing thing has built into it a set of actions and reactions which we say is the nature of that creature.
Some of nature is controlled by laws, such as gravity. No matter what action is taken, gravity is active constantly and will at some point control an object. Even in space there is gravitational pulls. The Apollo 13 space craft used gravity and inertia to throw themselves back towards Earth in their damaged ship.
Our personal nature is awesome and can take us places in our careers. However, our nature can also be detrimental to our careers and Christian walk. We must control our nature and subdue the parts of it that are inappropriate and sinful. In Romans Paul wrote.
“Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God. But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.)” Romans 8:5-9 NLT
So if we are truly Christian persons we have the Spirit of Christ in us and should be thinking of things that please the Spirit. We must allow the Holy Spirit to rule in our lives so we can bind up our natural sinful nature and live a life pleasing to God. We see in Philippians how we can mold our minds.
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” Philippians 4:8 NLT
If we can keep our minds on these things and not on things that can hinder us we can achieve a Godly lifestyle. One that is pleasing to God and more in line with His righteousness.
Be Blessed!
