Spice

I love to eat spicy food, whether it be spicy hot or simply flavorful spices. I don’t ruin good meat with extra sauces all though that is also spicing it up. A good piece of meat cooked correctly should speak for itself. But back to spices, they bring a liveliness to a dish. I am quite fond of cumin, cayenne, chili powder, and onion powder. I use these four spices when making eggs or a cheese quesadilla or a grilled cheese sandwich. Then there are the Middle Eastern and Southeast Asia spices that add flavor to a dish. A little curry can go a long way and black pepper and oriental chili pepper. Of course the basil and oregano combinations of European fare and Spanish Paprika.

As spice adds flavor and liveliness to our food, God adds spice and liveliness to our lives. Joy in time of heartache, hope in time of despair, peace in time of storm…these are just three examples of God’s gifts to us as we walk our road with Him. We can look around us in nature and see all that He has made and know that we matter to Him. Let us then watch for the spiritual spice of life that He wants to put into our lives.
