“Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. But when it is unhealthy, your body is filled with darkness. Make sure that the light you think you have is not actually darkness. If you are filled with light, with no dark corners, then your whole life will be radiant, as though a floodlight were filling you with light.” Luke 11:34-36
Wow! Just read this set of verses and what came to mind was this writing of Paul in Philippians.
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” Philippians 4:8
I am responsible for what I allow my eyes to absorb and contemplate. So if my eye falls upon something that is not appropriate, it is my responsibility to look away. God allows me through his decision to focus or not focus my attention on what I perceive. As I pursue holiness and righteousness it my decision that keeps the eye as light or darkness to my soul. I have decided that I will strive to “Make sure that the light I think I have is not actually darkness”. In so doing I might achieve another step towards holiness.
