Isaiah 9:6

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 NLT

What is this saying to us? What was Isaiah writing?

Here are some dictionary definitions pertaining to the things Christ would be called:

Definition of wonderful

 1: exciting wonder MARVELOUSASTONISHING
2: unusually good ADMIRABLE

Definition of counselor 

1a person who gives advice or counseling

So Christ will be a marvelous, astonishing and admirable person who gives us advice.

Definition of mighty 

1: possessing might POWERFUL
2: accomplished or characterized by might.
3: great or imposing in size or extentEXTRAORDINARY

So Christ will be a powerful, accomplished, great and imposing God.

Definition of everlasting

1: lasting or enduring through all timeETERNAL
2a (1): continuing for a long time or indefinitely
     (2): having or being flowers or foliage that retain form or color for a long time when dried
2b: tediously persistent
3: wearing indefinitely

So Christ is a lasting, tediously persistent,and never wearing out Father.

Definition of prince 

 b: the ruler of a principality or state
2: a male member of a royal family
3: a nobleman of varying rank and status
4: one likened to a prince

Definition of peace 

1: a state of tranquility or quiet
 a: freedom from civil disturbance
 b: a state of security or order within a community provided for bylaw or custom
2: freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions
3: harmony in personal relations
4a: a state or period of mutual concord between governments
 b: a pact or agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity

Lastly Christ is a King and ruler of all principalities and states, is a member of the Godhead royalty, a nobleman of varying rank and status, and like unto a prince when it comes to His peace given to us. This peace He gives is a state of tranquility and quiet freeing us from our oppressive thoughts and emotions. Allowing us to live in harmony with our brothers and sisters in Christ while journeying through this wilderness.

So as we go through this season, let us remember all of these awesome descriptions of what Christ is and what he can do for us.
