Well that is a strange word to think about. I have caught a cold and now I am coughing a bunch. That crazy junk must be embedded in my throat. I hate this because the more I cough the more soreness occurs in the abs and the head. Please break up and go away.
Our walk with Christ can become constrained if we allow things that do not lead to holiness infect us. How, might you ask can things like that infect us? Well let’s see, we might have a friend that just gets on our nerves so we do not relate with them in a correct way. We might come across something on the television that is not wholesome and we chuckle and let it enter our mind. Perhaps we linger to long on a thought that is inappropriate and allow it to fester. As James writes…’But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.’ James 1:14-15. So if we have the propensity to allow a temptation to linger in us and then allow the lingering temptation to drive us, we will inevitably sin and therefore bring death to our spiritual man which in turn leads eternal death for our souls.
The only way to defeat this spiritual phlegm and get it out of us is to confess and repent of the deep rooted things the Spirit reveals, then spit them out (so to speak). Let us then dig deep into God and allow the Spirit’s search light to seek out our phlegm so that we might cough it lose and spit it out so that we may breathe deeply of His presence.
